What inspires me…

Typography…

For me, typography is much more than just graphic design or illustration with some text thrown in. It’s an art form in itself that combines carefully chosen and arranged fonts with visual elements that can create a powerful artistic expression. I think I will always be attracted to typography as an art form. I appreciate them for their expressiveness, graphic qualities, and simplicity. Ever since high school, I’ve collected typography books and screen printed posters. Sometimes it’s about the actual text, or what’s being said, but most of the time it’s the artistic expression that has been created that I enjoy and feel inspired by so much.

Interior Design (of course)

I prefer interior spaces that look as if they’ve come together with little effort. They are simple in design, style, color and pattern. For me, interior spaces serve as a fresh and tranquil respite from the outside world. It is a place that offers no distractions and allows a person to relax.

Looking out of a window in a high-rise, down towards a bustling city street, never ceases to inspire me. I love the buildings, the urban environment, the sights and sounds, even the city grid. For me, even with such a structured foundational view, there’s always something new to see and experience.

Inspiration Boards…

This may sound odd, but for me, inspiration is the wellspring of passion.  Without inspiration, I wouldn’t be as passionate about a project, blogging, or learning as I am.  I love to create inspiration boards and to see other’s as well.  I like to know what other’s find inspiring – what moves them, what shakes them – and I like to share these things as well, especially from a design standpoint.

I hope you enjoyed a small glimpse into what inspires me.  This was a really great break from schoolwork – there’s nothing like a boost of inspiration to keep the mind fog away! But I really must get back to it, all the best!

I just wanted to drop by really quick to let all of you know that I’m not planning on posting much for the next two weeks.  Why, you ask?  Well, my first quarter of school is wrapping up and finals are right around the corner.  Granted, I haven’t any exams to study for, but I do have plenty of research papers to write! So, naturally my caffeinated self will be devoting large amounts of time to these things.

I will definitely be posting on March 3, however, to participate in Blog It Forward.  I’ll be sharing what inspires me, along with other fabulous bloggers.  So, be sure to come back and check that out!

I love how each of these spaces have varying degrees of gray or blue to them.  I’m finding myself more and more attracted to subtle color palettes and these rooms are certainly no exception.  (The first and last images are my absolute favorites!)

An Escritoire (roughly pronounced es-kri-twar) is also known as a writing table or secretary. Simply put, it’s a writing desk with a hinged door that provides a writing surface.  The majority of us know what a writing table or secretary is, but now you can go impress your friends by using the French word escritoire instead.

Hello everyone!  It feels so good to be writing on Discover: ID for the second time this week – with the ways things have been lately, that’s almost unheard of!   In fact, I’m really busy right now, but I wanted to drop in to say hello and see how everyone’s week has been so far. I can put off schoolwork for at least an hour can’t I?

I’m currently working on a handout for a presentation I’m giving with a classmate tomorrow.  We’re discussing Ecological & Restorative Theory and focusing a good bit of our attention on Healing Gardens. Did your eyes just glaze over? A little confused about what I’m talking about? Don’t worry – I was too when I first heard our topic.  It’s very interesting and if any of you are interested in hearing more about it I’ll happily share what I know with you. 

Well, my lunch is ready (Navy Bean soup made by my fabulous Grandma and frozen for me to enjoy later)!  I’ll be back in a little while to share a few more things. All the best!

I love these photographs from the book “The Way We Live in the City.”  I picked it up from my school’s library and haven’t stopped drooling over the pages.

I really love the window in the first image – if I could have a little spot like that in my home, showcasing a gorgeous view, I would be oh-so-very-happy!  I’m not particularly fond of the dark color scheme, but the space is still beautiful.  I’m a bigger fan of the following color palettes:

Hello everyone! I woke up early this morning to the sound of thunder rolling all around our building.  Surprisingly enough, I actually enjoyed it.  I realized that I hadn’t heard a thunderstorm in a long time and found the sound of thunder and rain comforting.

I really love the picture above – it’s gorgeous.  It makes me want to go out and dance in the rain (it just needs to get at least 20 degrees warmer, lol).

So how was everyone’s weekend? Did you have warm weather, too? And if you did – did you get to go out and enjoy it? I loved these warmer days!  I actually broke out my sandals yesterday for the first time in months! I love sandals and flip flops – if I could wear them year-round I probably would!

I’ve been daydreaming a lot lately about my next bedroom.  I’m so anxious to have my own space that I can’t help but imagine all of the details that I will put into it.  Right now, my number one color scheme involves light grays and whites! *swoon*

Well, hello there!  I thought I’d resurface after about two weeks of being totally m.i.a.! It feels like it’s been forever since we’ve chatted, doesn’t it?  How are all of you doing?  And your Valentine’s Day – was it wonderful? I actually celebrated the holiday a few days early on Friday with my valentine.  It was the perfect day because it snowed over 4 inches in Atlanta.  (I love snow!)  We ventured downtown to the Shakespeare Tavern to see Romeo & Juliet and I really enjoyed myself – the actor playing Mercutio was the most flamboyant Mercutio I’ve ever seen!

So what’s new with me? What have I been up to?

Well, as expected, I’ve been pretty busy with schoolwork, but I’ve also been busy with the “mechanics” behind Discover: ID.  I’ve been working hard to fix a problem that’s existed since July 2009 because I was tired of “working around it!”  Any free time I had went to working on this issue, which left zero time to post. Well, after many attempts to fix the issue – with no luck – I have now decided to transition my blog to an entirely different program.  That’s the next step! Which, hopefully, won’t open another can of worms….

So, please be patient as I work to make Discover: ID a better blog.  Once these issues are fixed and all of the changes are set in place, I should be able to post more often and easily. *fingers crossed*
