Tips: At Home Edition

With every At Home interview, I ask participants to tell me one of their best decorating tips. For this week’s Decor Tips, I have compiled their responses along with a photo of their home. Each one offers great ideas or advice about decorating from the heart or being innovative. I hope you enjoy!
Victoria of sfgirlbybay: My best tip is… shop the flea market.
Barb of Knack: My best tip is… don’t be afraid of color…embrace it… also if you love it …you’ll find a place for it! { husbands will hate me for this! }
Heather of Gathering Spriggs: My best tip is… to thine own self be true! You are your own best decorator – have confidence in your choices and always trust your natural instincts. (They are the best.)
Katie of Re:Fresh Design: My best tip is… if it’s ugly, try painting it!
Claire of High Gloss Blue: My best tip is… Finish it & make it intentional. Finish it, even if its not perfect or its cheaper than you want- you can change it later. I see a lot of homes where someone spent a lot of money on furniture, but then left out the details of the room- inevitably detracting value from room’s impact. Not editing clutter, not filling picture frames, not adding a bed skirt – these inactions cheapen a room faster than any trip to IKEA. Likewise, a room full of intentional decisions will always offer a lot of bang for the buck- even if you don’t have any bucks.
Ann of Sky Designs: My best tip is… love it or ditch it. Life is too short not to love your surroundings.
Ana of Rearranged Design: My best tip is… try every arrangement, keep trying until it works for you.
Michelle of Design Evolution: My best tip is… take your time and fill your home with only pieces you really love. Don’t feel like you have to fill up your home with a bunch of furniture from Levitz just so that you have a decorated home a month after you move in. It will take time to figure out what rooms really need what pieces and it may take even longer to find that perfect piece. When you do find the perfect piece for perfect corner of you home it will make you happy every time you look at it.
Thank you to all of my At Home participants. It’s been wonderful touring your homes and reading your answers!

I was delighted and inspired by this post. I love the way each tip is demonstrated by a photo. Though I have to argue with Barb, at the moment I’m trying to find a place for all the things my husband loves (ahem … poorly framed star wars poster – have you got a tip for what to do about that?)
