Spark Plugs * Plaid + Tartan

Posted on | November 2, 2009 | 3 Comments

Maybe you’ve noticed… maybe you haven’t… but plaid and tartan designs are all the rage right now in fashion, but how does that translate into Interior Design? (Let’s go beyond the plaid picnic blanket or tablecloth, shall we?)

Today, plaid or tartan designs can be found in gorgeous wall coverings…

…or flooring…

…or both wall coverings and flooring.

And if the mood strikes, you could match your interior, too.

Of course bedding is always an option.

…but this headboard is even better!

Or what about draperies?

And it doesn’t stop there!  If you dig deep enough, you’ll find these patterns everywhere.  After all, they’ve been around for ages!  So, I’m curious: would any of you consider plaid or tartan in your homes?  Or do you prefer to keep it just to your wardrobe?  I like both – I have a plaid cardigan that I adore and I’d consider using a plaid wallpaper somewhere unexpected in my home one day.

Love this! That first photo to so pretty. I might pick up a plaid scarf, but i’d love a really tailored, belted, hip length plaid coat, (if it exists, lol).

I’ve recently decorated my living room using a tartan sofa, while the walls are white, and feature only one florally papered wall behind the sofa.I have one plain easy chair that is the background colour of the tartan sofa, with tartan throws. The wooden floors do not have a rug on them as this could amount to an overkill of pattern.
