Color: Absinthe + Olive

I love the pairing of colors absinthe and olive. Traditional Home, inspired by the inauguration outfit Isabel Toledo designed for Michelle Obama, found ways to bring this sophisticated color pairing home.

I realize the scan from Traditional Home is a bit small, so I’ve included some items that I especially liked at a larger scale. First of all, I love chartreuse roses (I love just about any flower that is green; like mums for instance). I think green flowers are gorgeous! So I love the idea of brightening up a table with a dozen chartreuse roses. Nina Cambell’s “Stradivari” wallpaper (top right) is lovely. One really needs to see more than just a strip of it because it really makes an impact when covering an entire wall. I’ve included the flocked petals of the “Fontette”" wallpaper at Osborne & Little because it keeps drawing my eye. I haven’t decided if I truly do like it, but I think it has unexpected charm; truly the image (above) doesn’t do it justice.
In the article, color expert Victoria Stuart Burke gives pointers on how to take these colors and paint them on the wall. The four colors above are my favorite:
- Glidden’s “Spring Cactus”
- Sherwin Williams’ “High Strung”
- Valspar’s “Garden of Paradise”
- Sherwin Williams’ “Sassy Green” (which looks better in the magazine)
I’m curious to learn how many of you like Absinthe and Olive paired together? Do you love it or hate it? Feel free to share your opinion in the comments below!

Oooh I love this color combo. My kitchen is similar to #2 but is Benjamin Moore’s Agave (one of the Aura colors). I love it! I just love how this combo is so warm and unexpected!
