Krinkle Dinkle, Boll Weevils, and Beauty in the Unexpected

Many of you are loyal visitors, visiting every chance you can get, and some of you are here for the first time ever (Hi! Welcome!). You have either memorized my About page or you haven’t even noticed it yet. Regardless, I wanted to take a moment (or two) to shed some light on the person who writes the words you are reading.
My name is Kristin, but I have many nicknames. My favorite, I confess, is Krinkle Dinkle, given to me by my future brother-in-law. I’m a military brat! I was born in Enterprise, Alabama where they worship the boll weevil with a pagan fervor (that’s a joke by the way). Shortly after being born, I spent the next 9 years living in about 7 other states. Lucky for me, my parents planted their feet in Georgia and it’s where I’ve lived for almost 15 years now. It is by this fact alone that I call the South my home.
I’m 24 and I have a Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design from Georgia Southern University. That’s right, they have an Interior Design program! (A good one, might I add). I am currently a crash victim of this recession and looking for new opportunities. I consider this blog my part-time job passion. It really is a passion.
I don’t know if it’s obvious or not, but I love interior design.

As I age, I find that any childish jealousies I may have had are beginning to melt. With each breath, each day, I come to realize more and more that there is no one in this world like me.
I honestly don’t have a favorite color. I like all of them, but if you insist that I pick one, I will say chartreuse. If you insist that I pick my least favorite… it’s hands down purple.
I love iced chais so much that my barista calls me Chai Chicky. (I often wonder if one needs to have developed a chai addiction prior to gaining such a nickname?)
I have found a friend in the book Eat Pray Love that I never knew I needed.
I listen to so much music it’s impossible to list them all, but here are a few: Silversun Pickups, The Bravery, Anberlin, Coheed and Cambria, The Frames, and Kings of Leon.

My dog’s name is Nigel and he’s part Poodle, part Westland Terrier. He’s my little pound puppy and by far the sweetest, craziest, stinkiest and cuddliest guy I’ve ever loved. He’s so much cooler than any cat I’ve ever adopted.
I’m a self-proclaimed nerd, though I get the feeling my friends wouldn’t argue against that statement. It’s OK, I like being a nerd. For example, I’m not in school anymore, but I still go to lectures. If you advertise a free lecture about interior design, architecture, or art (and it piques my curiosity) there’s a 99.9% chance I’ll be there.
I type 65 wpm. I checked.
I am random and I never want to feel silly for it. It’s who I am.
My favorite architects (so far) are: Renzo Piano and Peter Zumthor. I honestly do not have a favorite designer (yet). But, I think the sexiest chair is the Barcelona by Mies Van der Rohe. It’s the stiletto of chairs.
I find beauty in the unexpected. It’s all the little imperfections in life that make me think the world is so beautiful, colorful and wondrous. Awkward smiles, missteps, clumsy spills and walking into doors – this is the good stuff. I love the feel of paper and the stroke of new pens. I hold them with a romantic sensibility.
If there’s anything else you’re curious about (hehe), feel free to ask in the comments section!

Ah Kristin, this was great. What a lovely young lady you are. ( I can say young lady, because I’m old(er) by a 20). Since meeting you in Holly’s class, I’m really enjoying your blog and our common love for interior design and architecture. Looking forward to more great posts here on Discover Interior Design.

Thanks, Ann Marie! I was a little nervous about sharing this post… but then realized I wouldn’t have a problem sharing this information in person.
I’m glad you’re enjoying my blog – it makes me feel like I am doing something right!

I’m not sure how anyone’s least favorite color could be purple. Especially when chartreuse is their favorite. And, even more so when chartreuse and purple make such a winning combination. Oh well, I guess you weren’t going to be perfect in at least one area…
*romantic sensibility* makes me smile

Heather: I will admit that chartreuse and purple go together exceptionally well. In fact, it’s one of my favorite color combinations!
I appreciate the color purple, but for me personally, it is the last color I go to regarding interior design or clothing. The only exception is plum… I gravitate to that shade all the time.
Isn’t purple your favorite color? Or am I mistaken?
