Favorite images…

Below are some of my favorite images. Perhaps some won’t strike you as diamonds, but that’s what I love about some of them. Some times you need to look beyond the image and see the smaller things, the details. I pay attention to not only patterns and rhythm or color combinations, but also whether or not they make me feel something. I like images that make me smile.

I like to use photos as a means of inspiration for my designs and other creative endeavors. While I was in school I used them to define design concepts and help visually explain certain elements that were extremely important (i.e. texture, contrast, mood) etc. I strongly believe that photography (graphics in general) is a vital tool for all upcoming designers. Some of you may think this is a “No Duh!” statement, but you’d be surprised!

Yellow!

Take this photo for instance; it’s colorful and bright. I love how it makes me smile. It even makes me wish I were there! I would love to walk through all of that yellow.

And more deliciousness…

Yellow!

Mmm… love the motion that you see in this one.

Lights!

This is a photo taken by Orrin’s friend, Kipp. Orrin has it hanging in our kitchen right now, but beyond that… I love it because the lights remind me of fireflies… even rain drops. It’s urban and fun. A design friend of mine developed an entire design concept for a restaurant called glo around this picture.

Car.

I see amazing colors and geometric shapes that would make a 60’s or 70’s inspired design to-die-for.

Pink

I can’t even explain WHY I love this one. I just do. It’s so simple…. I think it’s because I love almost any photograph of signs.

Door.

Every time I look at this photo, I think of a Mexican restaurant. (Mmm, I LOVE Mexican food).

Hibiscus.

What initially drew me to this photo was it’s obvious femininity. Pink + Yellow = a girlie girl’s dream, right? Well, I wouldn’t really consider myself uber-girlie, but I am definitely more than than tomboy. (Interesting fact: I used to love the color pink, then despised it, then I fell in love again in college. Though I don’t love it as much, it will always be a color that I like). Beyond color, though, look at that texture!

Orange.

I love the color orange.

V.

This photo is awesome. I love the painted brick and the colors creating this nice V-pattern. Besides the obvious color scheme that would work wonders, I also think this would be a great fabric print! I could see myself sporting a “baby doll” dress with fabric that looked like the picture above. *sigh* Wouldn’t it be great if I could find one like that somewhere? I’m sure there’s gotta be something similar, considering the influx of “baby doll” dresses this summer. Hmm.

So there you have it… a few of my favorite photographs. Oh, yes… there is more (much more). I hope these photographs inspire you in your next creative endeavor!
